There are animals all around. Sometimes they are not noticed because they are small. There are 24 species of bees in this country. How many have you seen? Here's a big hairy bee, with a red tail. What is she doing? Is she looking for something or digging a hole in tha ground? The ground there is hard. Nearby is a butterfly on a knapweed flower. It's coloured like dead grass. Bees like knapweed flowers, too. Here's a bumblebee with orange hairs and another bumblebee with an orange stripe on its back.

Den po maw gwiskys en lavrek o moy saw avel benyn pow mos gwiskys en pilen. Today I watched Lynn Mayers talking about bal-maidens. It was a very interesting lecture, from Kresen Kernow (Cornwall Centre). There were many bal-maidens in my parish (in a red area of the map). There is still the remains of a mine nearby. The work could be dangerous. Sometimes a girl's clothes were caught in machinery. Long skirts were not safe. A man or boy dressed in a pair of trousers was safer than a woman or girl dressed in a skirt.
