August is the right month for gathering fruits from the garden and from the hedges. Some apples are falling to the ground already. Many apples are damaged, pecked by birds for moisture. Flies and bees and wasps like damaged apples. But there are enough apples left for me to stew with blackberries from the hedges. I would like to have some yellow plums, too, but they are gone. Perhaps they were stolen by birds or by squirrels. The squirrels have certainly eaten all the hazel nuts.
