The corn is cut. There is a stubble field - that is a field full of stubble. After the rain there are green shoots. There is something for the cattle to eat. It is not the right time, not yet, to plough the ground with a tractor and plough and plant seed for next year. The ground is still too dry - and hard as rock; as hard rock. The animals are not dairy cattle; they are bullocks for beef.

Den po maw gwiskys en lavrek o moy saw avel benyn pow mos gwiskys en pilen. Today I watched Lynn Mayers talking about bal-maidens. It was a very interesting lecture, from Kresen Kernow (Cornwall Centre). There were many bal-maidens in my parish (in a red area of the map). There is still the remains of a mine nearby. The work could be dangerous. Sometimes a girl's clothes were caught in machinery. Long skirts were not safe. A man or boy dressed in a pair of trousers was safer than a woman or girl dressed in a skirt.
