Nei ell gòrra a-drenewen agan hevejyow ha powsyow hav cotton scav ha drei mes agan frâwkys poos, agan cardigans ha gwlânegow erel. En scon nei a vedh gweskys en côtys stanch ha bombadys (botys stanch). Anjei ell bos costek, bes gwell ens avel treys gleb.

The weather is turning. Gone is the the summer sun and the heat. Gone are the long days. We no longer need our summer clothes. We can put aside our lightweight cotton shirts and summer dresses and bring out our heavy jerseys,  our cardigans and other woollies. Soon we will be clad in waterproof coats and wellingtons (waterproof boots). They can be expensive, but they are better than wet feet.

Den po maw gwiskys en lavrek o moy saw avel benyn pow mos gwiskys en pilen. Today I watched Lynn Mayers talking about bal-maidens. It was a very interesting lecture, from Kresen Kernow (Cornwall Centre). There were many bal-maidens in my parish (in a red area of the map). There is still the remains of a mine nearby. The work could be dangerous. Sometimes a girl's clothes were caught in machinery. Long skirts were not safe. A man or boy dressed in a pair of trousers was safer than a woman or girl dressed in a skirt.
